Peace of mind is something we all value, even if we don’t always think about it. It’s woven into the choices we make each day, including how we care for ourselves, plan for the future, and navigate life with confidence. At Atkins Dental Clinic, we believe that peace of mind should be part of every step of your dental care. From the moment you walk through our doors, our goal is to create a sense of calm and trust. We have built our approach to dentistry around your comfort because we know that a relaxed mind makes for a smoother experience and better outcomes. True peace of mind goes beyond just a single visit. It’s knowing that you have a dentist who listens to your concerns, clearly explains your options from sedation to tooth replacement, and provides care you can rely on.
We never take that trust for granted. It’s a privilege to help you protect not just your smile, but your sense of ease and confidence every step of the way.
How Can a Sedation Dentist Help Me?
Sedation can completely change the way you experience oral surgery, especially if you feel anxious or nervous about dental visits. It helps you stay calm and relaxed throughout your procedure, regardless of its length or complexity. This sense of ease not only makes treatment more comfortable but also encourages people who have been avoiding the dentist to finally get the care they need. As a result, patients often enjoy better oral health in the long term.
During surgery, sedation keeps pain and discomfort to a minimum. Many patients have little to no memory of the procedure itself, whether it is a tooth extraction or the placement of dental implants. Staying relaxed also helps you remain still, which allows the dental team to work more efficiently and with greater precision. The result is shorter appointments, improved outcomes, and a more positive experience.
How Sedation Minimizes Stress and Promotes Healing
Did you know that the stress your body experiences during surgery can actually slow down the healing process? Sedation dentistry helps ease this stress, allowing your body to recover more efficiently after oral surgery. By calming the nervous system, sedation reduces physical tension and lowers the body’s inflammatory response. This means less post-operative pain, swelling, and discomfort. With less stress on your system, your natural healing processes can work more effectively, leading to quicker tissue repair and a faster return to daily activities. Sedation can also lower the risk of complications like prolonged soreness or excessive swelling, helping you feel better, sooner.
Understanding Your Sedation Options
At Atkins Dental Clinic, we understand the importance of feeling calm and comfortable during dental treatment, especially if you’re nervous. To help with that, we offer two safe and effective sedation options: oral conscious sedation and nitrous oxide.
With oral conscious sedation, Dr. Aaron will prescribe a sedative pill for you to take about 30 to 60 minutes before your appointment. The medication takes effect gradually, helping you feel deeply relaxed. Many patients feel groggy or lightly asleep during treatment and often remember very little afterward. Because the effects can last for several hours, you will need someone to drive you home and should plan to rest for the remainder of the day.
Nitrous oxide, often referred to as laughing gas, is administered through a small mask placed over your nose during the procedure. You’ll begin to feel calm within a few minutes, and we can adjust the level of sedation throughout your treatment to keep you comfortable. Nitrous oxide provides a lighter level of sedation, allowing you to remain awake and aware, and most people recall the procedure. Once we stop the gas, the effects wear off quickly. You can drive yourself home and return to normal activities soon after your visit.
Both options help reduce anxiety and make your experience more pleasant. We’re here to help you choose the method that fits your needs and supports your peace of mind.
