An implant denture can be either implant-supported or implant-fixed, depending on the level of retention.
An implant-supported denture is removable by the patient, allowing for easy cleaning and maintenance. It snaps onto mini implants using attachments, providing stability while still allowing the patient to engage in their own hygiene routine.
An implant-fixed denture is permanently secured to the implants using dental cement. Once placed, it functions like a crown or bridge, meaning it cannot be removed by the patient. If removal is necessary, it must be done in the dental office using specialized tools. If the denture ever loosens, it is not a failure of the implant itself but rather the cement, which can be refreshed to restore its hold.
In simple terms, implant dentures come in two forms: one that the patient can remove at home and one that stays in place unless removed by a dentist. Both options eliminate the need for denture adhesive and provide significantly improved stability and function.
